Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishor reacted to the DUSU results while responding to questions from the media in Begusarai on Sunday, September 20, 2026. On the NSUI’s complete defeat in the DUSU election, Kishor said the result showed that even if students were angry, that anger alone would not necessarily translate into an opposition victory.
“This shows that no matter how much anger there is among students… as I often say, rainwater cannot be used for irrigation… you need to build canals for that. There may be a lot of anger in society, but that does not mean the opposition will win. You have to channel that anger positively in some way; only then will you see a change in elections,” Kishor said.
The DUSU results saw ABVP’s Yash Dabas elected president, while Riya Chhawdi won the secretary’s post and Lakshya Raj Singh became joint secretary. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s post. The result marked the first time since 2015 that NSUI failed to win a seat on the DUSU central panel.
Kishor was also asked about the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which is running a campaign to improve schools. Responding to the question, he said, “Brother, teachers will fix the schools. The government itself will fix them. How can a party fix them?”
Questions were also raised about Bihar’s prohibition law, following which Kishor targeted Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. He told the media that people should not expect anything better in Bihar. Kishor said that if someone who is himself “7th-fail”, is a criminal and has somehow reached the chair is expected to deliver improvement, then the fault is not Samrat Chaudhary’s but “ours and yours.” His remarks were reported in the context of questions about Bihar’s prohibition law.
Kishor was then asked about the upcoming election to eight seats of the Bihar Legislative Council and whether opposition from JD(U) MLA Anant Singh to his own party’s leader Neeraj Kumar could benefit his party in the Legislative Council election.
Kishor avoided giving a detailed response to the question and said, “We don’t know.”
The remarks came as Kishor addressed several political questions in Begusarai, ranging from the DUSU election results and the CJP’s school campaign to Bihar’s prohibition law and the upcoming Legislative Council elections.
